Virginia Tech's X Cluster went operational recently, becoming the third ranking supercomputer in the world. Built from 1100 dual 2Ghz 64-bit Apple G5 workstations, the VT cluster is measured at 10.28 trillion calculations per second - which, in lay terms, is pretty darn fast.
